ARTOC Group Chairman to Co-Chair Atlantic Council's Global Citizen Award Dinner in New York

M. Shafik Gabr - Chairman & Managing Director of ARTOC Group for Investment and Development - has been invited to co-chair the Atlantic Council's second annual Global Citizen Awards Dinner which will be held in New York on 21st September 2011.

Since its founding in 1961, the Atlantic Council has been a preeminent, non partisan institution devoted to promoting transatlantic cooperation and international security. Now in its 50th year, the council is harnessing its history of transatlantic leadership and applying its founders' vision to a broad spectrum of modern global challenges from violent extremism to financial instability and from NATO's future to energy security.

Three Global Citizen awards will be presented by the council at this year's annual dinner to: Prime Minister Rafik Hariri of Lebanon (posthumously), whose vision of a prosperous and peaceful Middle East ended tragically with his assassination in 2005; Senator John Kerry, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee in the United States, for being a long-standing advocate of constructive U.S. international leadership and engagement; and Christine Lagarde, the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the critical role she will play in resolving Europe's sovereign debt crisis and in ensuring economic recovery worldwide.

Mr. Gabr was selected to the honourary role of co-chair of the Global Citizen Awards Dinner due to his keen interest and wealth of experience in participating in global issues, including founding and chairing Egypt's International Economic Forum and founding the Arab Global Forum Initiative. He also serves on the International Business Council of the World Economic Forum, the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies, the Council of Faith Community and the Egyptian Businessmen Association. Moreover, Mr. Gabr is a member on several advisory boards including Zurich Financial Services , MIT's Center for International Studies and Yale University’s President’s Council on International Activities.
